Testers for Ultimate Wheel Comparison Wanted

We would like to make a community test comparison between the following wheels:

  • Logitech G27
  • Porsche 911 Turbo S Clubsport Edition
  • Porsche 911 GT3RS Clubsport edition

The testers will receive all 3 wheels for testing and of course we pay the freight in both directions.

If the tester wants to keep one of the Fanatec wheels he gets a discount of at least 50%. This is independent from the test results. The discount will be granted even if you already own the product. As a bonus, you will get pre-production version of a new product for free long before release.

The test should compare the strengths and weaknesses of each wheel and the tester has to rate the wheels according to a specific weighted rating scheme.

Minimum requirements to make the test:

  • Tester must race on at least a PC and PS3.
  • Ability to express yourself clear and in english language
  • Ability to take pictures and/or to make a video
  • Tester must be member of the911 wheel Club and has fully filled out the test registration form.
  • Tester must be located in EU or USA

Advantages to get higher priority:

  • Beside the PC and PS3 you own a Xbox 360 as well
  • You are a well respected member of a big and established gaming community
  • You already made tests (post links)
  • You are a well known and respected simracer (console or PC)
  • You are in the top 100 ranking of the GT5 Time Trial demo (post time and country)
  • You are already a customer of Fanatec and perhaps own one of the wheels.
  • Commitment to make a video (20 min max)

All you need to do is to post this information in a comment to this post.

Please do not send me e-mails or PMs. Thank you. If I think that somebody is qualified I will contact him. You can also post proposals of testers which you think are qualified.

Please spread the word in your community about this test.

Someone pointed me to this

Someone pointed me to this site, and I'm very interested in testing these wheels.
I'm currently on the market for a new wheel since my Driving Force Pro pedals have given up entirely.

My name is Bert and I'm from Belgium. I speak Dutch and English, but I can also understand German for a big part.

I'm a Race Admin over at GTPlanet.net and have helped with setting up the online rules and also helped organise a couple of races.
I'm respected for being a clean and quick racer by a lot of people.
I made it to rank 13 in the Belgian GT Academy (total time: 3'24.490) despite having to race with flickering pots in my DFP pedal.

My favorite racing game is off course Gran Turismo on the PS3, but I also own a couple of racing games for the PC, including GT Legends.

I have participated in multiple GT 'Lan parties' with GT4 in the UK, Holland and Germany and chat daily with some of the top drivers in GT, including racers who made it to the Silverstone GT Academy final and a lot more who made it to their country finals.

I can take pictures and I'm also able (and willing) to record video.
I have a degree in IT and currently learning Electronics, so giving good feedback shouldn't be a problem.

I hope to be able to test out these wheels and give feedback so that they will be perfectly suited for every committed racer who's looking for a competitive wheel.

If the invitation is still

If the invitation is still open I would love to apply as a tester for this Ultimate Wheel Comparison!

I am a veteran hardcore sim racer that have been involved in different kinds of motor racing for over 30 years. Working as a senior software developer and hardware technician I am capable in finding any kind of issue there is with the products.

My hardware consists of multiple PCs running XP, Vista and Windows 7, PS3 and a Xbox 360 but I mainly race on the PC. The sim I run mostly is rFactor but spend a lot of time in other racing games as well. I race in a homebuilt cockpit. Steering wheels that have previously used include Thrustmaster and Logitech but I am currently looking at Fanatec. My priorities in a steering wheel are feel, features and functionality. As I am always driving without any kind of driving aid it is essential for me to get the maximum feedback from my controller. I have a full understanding of car setup and always make my own setups. Online racing against others is the fun part for me and I have been active in series since 2005 and immensely enjoy close racing (which put high demands on wheel precision and feedback). I am a member of several online communities like RSC as well as active in open source racing games development and modding.

I am analytical and a perfectionist. If chosen you will not get a product review from only a few hours testing but a complete test where all products are fully examined and individually adjusted in search for optimal performance. I live in Sweden and is an experienced writer and video creator. I can bring you reviews both in text/photo and video, in English or Swedish.

Thanks for the consideration.

I'm happy to participate in

I'm happy to participate in testing from the UK

I already own a GT3RS, Standard Pedals and both 6spd and sequential shifters. I previously owned up until a few months ago a G25 and prior to that Formula Force GT.

I only have a PC (no consoles sadly) and race Dirt2, Grid, GTR Evo, Race 07 and Rfactor.

Happy write a comparison review of all three against all of the above games. To be honest I've been itching to see A. How the Clubsport pedals compare to the standard pedals, B. How the GT3RS compares to the later Logitech G27 and C. What the difference in 'feel' is between the RS and the Turbo S

Here's hoping

My name is Alexander Prus. I live in the US. My PSN ID is thepatriots. I am an active member of the the Gran Turismo site GTPlanet.net (User:paskowitz). I am also a member of NoGripRacing.com (User:paskowitz) and the official US Playstation forums (User:thepatriots).

I own every major racing sim and actively play each. I am out of the top 200 ranking for the GT Academy US time trials but I do hold a time below 1:38.00 in the tuned car. I hold a couple top 100 times in GT5p. I am making my own sim cockpit over the summer (for real this time). I am also looking to get more people in my college into the hobby. This would be a great opportunity.

I also do video editing in my spare time and am comfortable with a camera (video/photo) (I have the full Adobe Master Collection). A while ago I did an in depth comparison of the G25, DFGT and DFP on the official US PS forums. If it matters I have been Go-Karting for the last 2 years and its has taught me a lot about driving. I would love the opportunity again to do an in depth comparison of each of the wheels. Thank you for your time.

(Edit: I also can also translate my written work into German. I also have been wanting to test the Fanatec wheels since you stepped foot onto the US PS forums Thomas 3 years. Since then I have grown like Porsche a lot more. My feelings were rather unfounded and more the result of listening to Top Gear too much.)

Hello Thomas, my Name is

Hello Thomas,

my Name is Stefan Jahr and i´m now 24 years old. You write that you searching testers, not only in English.

I´m from Germany and i like to Test the Porsche 911 Turbo S Clubsport Edition Wheel.

I only play Racing Games on xbox360. Because i had not so much money i must drive with the xbox360 controller.

In Forza Motorsport 3 and Race Pro i have some World Records and i love to push my car to the limit^^
Also Playing at the IFCA Leauge and i´m currently on 2nd place(International Tournemant)

Since 2009 SK Gaming is my home at the E-Sport and I would love to test the Wheel for xbox360 and PS3(Hope for GT5).

I´m at the National Finals for the World Cyber Gamer 2010 and hope to become a chance to fly to Los Angeles.

So let me know if i can make a German Test. I would loved it. Because you see my english is very bad.

Hello! I'd love to test the

Hello!

I'd love to test the GT3RS with Clubsport Peddals and review all three products!

I currently own a Playseat Evo and the following wheels: 911TurboS w/ Standard Peddals, G27 and a Microsoft Wheel as well.

I also own all three platforms (PC, XBOX 360, PS3), and do a lot of sim racing on all of them (I see a trend of throwing the titles in, so I'll name a few I play on a regular basis: RBR, Sim Bin titles, Forza 3, Dirt 2, GT5P, F1 Challenge, GRID, NFS Shift, etc.)

I am capable of taking Hi Res Photos/Videos and posting them on the web. I can review the products in English and Polish (I live in US).

I am 30 y.o. and racing games have been my love since the 90's.

Thank you for your consideration.

I am very interested in

I am very interested in being part of the community test for these wheels. I love automobiles and video games!

I own a PS3 with GT5, Grid and Midnight Club:LA as well as a gaming PC (Vista 32 bit and Windows 7 x64) with Dirt 2, NFS:Shift and Test Drive Unlimited. I can obtain an X360 with Forza 3 and PGR 2 for testing.

I have a Logitech DFGT and have used a G25 but do not own it. Karting is one of my hobbies as well so I have some experience in real life racing.

I am studying in a program called “Computers and Digital Systems Technology” which is a mix between "Electrical Engineering" and "Computer Science". Having completed 2 out of 3 years I am very knowledgeable in programming (Assembly, C), circuit design (using individual ICs or PLDs) and interfacing (microprocessors and microcontrollers). So I think that knowledge would be an asset to testing a device like this and help a lot with reporting issues and comparing the quality of the wheels.

I have also worked in QA testing video games and my details are:
* 2+ years of experience working as a QA tester (full-time)
- I have experience with all the things that come with working QA such as reproducing issues, reporting issues, getting around issues that block testing to continue testing other parts of the product and coming up with ways to test that would make issues more likely to occur.
* 10 months testing on PS3
* 10 months testing on X360
- I know the systems' capabilities and also know how to do everything on these consoles quickly. Working minimum 40 hour weeks on these systems I have learned how to be very efficient and have more experience than many users at home. Also I have learned how to do things that home users would have no use for to try and get issues to appear.
* 4 months testing on PC
- As on console I have many hours testing on PC so I know how to accomplish tasks efficiently. I spend a lot of time on my PC and I like to try new things out and experiment with it. I have some experience with virtual machines (VMWare). I have overclocked (gaming PC), underclocked (HTPC), used water-cooling and have been following PC hardware for almost a decade now so I know a lot about PCs and am not scared to get my hands a little dirty.
* Often worked 12 hour days testing
- I have no problems testing/playing games for an excessive amount of time.

I am very skilled at writing reports on bugs because I have been trained for it. I always include more than enough detail such as a detailed title, steps to reproduce, keywords, pictures and a video if possible. All that so the developers will never need to request more information or have any doubts as to the origins of the issue and no one will write a duplicate of it as long as they search. I also spend a lot of time searching for similar issues in the database because I know that duplicates are a waste of everyone's time.

These skills also provide a strong base for not only testing alpha/beta products but also for testing and comparing final products.

I love to take pictures and edit videos so I own an Olympus E-330 (DSLR) and a Flip Ultra HD (video camera) plus large lights and tripods. I have used Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Premiere extensively so posting quality pictures and videos will be a pleasure.

As for being known in a gaming community I try to help out as much as I can on GTP but I do not post much. I have been posting a lot on Shoryuken forums (Street Fighter) and I am well known in certain sub-forums (Tech Talk, Canada and Character Specific for example). I am very well known in the MTLSF (Montreal Street Fighter) community even by people who come from Toronto/Ottawa to play in our tournaments (usually about 100 participants).

Lastly, I am fluent in both English and French.

Thomas, still interested of

Thomas, still interested of course. I already have the Frankenfanatec wheel I made w/ GT3RS rim on PWTS body, as well as a stock production PWTS I bought. Both are installed w/ CS pedals on a 2 person head to head setup in my unfinished basement. The Franken-wheel is set up in 3D w/ Nvidia 3DVision, almost the same as the one on this week's Sim Racing Tonight interview w/ Indy driver Townsend Bell (minus the motion.)

I'm also going to be reusing an old large monitor and PC I have for a 3rd seat within the next couple of weekends, set up besides the other two for 3-player racing LAN party style. So it would be possible for me to have all three setup at a time for direct comparisons on video, shot w/ the same setup as the rim exchange videos I did on YouTube.

Anyway, I'm interested if you'd like, thanks!

I already applied earlier as

I already applied earlier as a "tester". Filled in the 'official registration' but a quick resume:

- 32 year old male, independent IT Professional/Software Developer, living in the Netherlands.
- Posses all 3 targeted platforms (XBox360, PS3, Powerful PC)
- Already owner of a Turbo S Wheel + CSP (and several other PC Wheels, MS-Wheel)
- Could do review in Dutch/English/German
- Occasional Track Day driver in my own 911 Turbo
- Attended several trainings in the Porsche Sport Driving School
- Have professional equipment for film and photography

Primary interests are realistic feel and build quality. I would describe myself as a perfectionist, ambitious and knowledgeable.

I would like to use the opportunity to test these 3 wheels against the weighted rating scale.

Thanks,

Sander

Hello Thomas, I'm Sébastien, from France.
I'm 19.
I'm a huge fan of cars and motorsport in general so when I heard about the beta testing campain I was so excited.
I own a PS3 with GT5, a Xbox 360 with Forza 3 and a PC with GTR2 and I own a G25 steering wheel and the Xbox official as well.
In real life I own a 2006 VW Polo GTI.
I play race video games since the 1st GranTurismo, when I was a kid.
I would be very grateful if Fanatec would choose me as a tester and I think that the french market shouldn't be overpassed, so I should be one of the good choice =).

Hello, I'm a 27 year old MBA

Hello, I'm a 27 year old MBA student due to graduate by the end of this year. I believe I can contribute not only the feedback of the construction of the the product, but I've spend large amounts of time to seriously design how my racing setup should be. Therefore, I would be able to give feedback on improvements on actual racing setups, rather than just pc-desktop setups.

I owned G25 and GT5 Prologue for 11 months and sold it for the upgrade to Fanatec PWTS.

I'm currently running a Triple Screen Setup with Fanatec PWTS on Obutto. I've also designed my own mounting system for the shifter that was introduced in the video.

Here are two videos of my current setup.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_IgxG78zuM

http://www.youtube.com/user/tung176#p/a/u/0/53kWxa7bqRI

I have 3x24 inch Monitors and an additional 19 inch monitor that I will mount to my setup. I have 4 xboxs that I run and when then GT5 comes out, I will purchase 2 additional (I have 1 now) PS3s in order to complete the triple screen setup for that game. ** I already pre-ordered 3 copies of GT5 :)

I'm going to do a triple screen setup for PC as well.
My current Computer specs:
Intel Q6600 OC-ed to 3.22Ghz
EVGA Akimbo 9800GT 1Ghz Overclocked as well.
Asus 8400GS for the output for the 3rd monitor
2 Gigs Ram
Asus P5N-D motherboard

I am in Vancouver, Canada.

Hi Thomas My name is Ivan

Hi Thomas

My name is Ivan Sørensen (47 years old), I live in Denmark and drive in the Danish Race League (www.drl.dk) and have done this for a couple off years now. I'm educated electronic mecanic and one off my great hoobies are to build add-on's for the race-frame, like SLI-Pro from LeoBodnar. I have today a G25 std., a G25 with frex quick release wheel, Hydra brake from Frex, Microsoft Wheel, Fanatec Turbo S (pure edition), Play on PC, PS3 and Xbox360 also have projector with 89" screen - hd webcam, digital camera etc.

Games... all serious on four wheels..and some fun one's
Race ON, GTR Evolution, STCC, GTR, GTR2, GTL, rFactor, DIRT 2
Forza Motorsport, Race PRO, GRID
Formula One, Gran Tourismo

Hi Thomas, I would like to

Hi Thomas,

I would like to test all these wheels. I'm a 26 years old racing enthusiast living in Canada. I'm freelance photographer/graphic designer/digital artist. I do have a good camera and a good camcorder for doing a video review.

I currently own the PWT. I had experience with the momo and the g25 before. I currently race on PS3 (GT5p) and PC (Race 07 and GTR Evo). I have a custom PVC racing rig with PWT hard mount to it.

If I will be selected for the review. My plan is to make a video comparing the 3 wheels mentioned here and the ultimate wheel in GT5P and GTR Evo. There are several reasons I want to test the wheels on GT5P instead of GT5 TT. The first being the use of clutch with the H-shifter. Another reason is I can drive cars that I drove in real life (Rx-8 and Mini S Cooper). It will be easier for me to do comparison with real life experience. I will be testing all tracks with these 2 cars, the Nissan GTR (to test the paddles) and the Ford GT, one of the funnest FR car to drive in the game.

On the pc side, I will be using GTR Evo. The reason being that it is one of the better games out of the box without any mods, so the results will be more consistent. I'm thinking to choose 3 tracks and race on them with 3 classes of car on all wheels.

This testing procedure will be recorded and edited into 15 min video giving each wheels about 4 min of in-depth review. It will compare the experience to the real cars to see which software + wheels will give the best simulation.

Finally, the review will be in written and video form and it will be published on youtube, insidesimracing and gtplanet.

Hello My name is Suleman

Hello My name is Suleman Zia. I live in USA in Memphis, TN and i am 29 years old. I have been a racing fanatec for 4 years now. I own Regular xbox, xbox 360, ps3, PC and PS2. I have owned almost all of the NFS series, Race pro, All Forza series and all of the Gran Turismo series. All i do is play racing games. I have my own racing Team in forza for xbox 360 by the name of GSR (Grand SPort Racing) http://g.s.r.forumfree.net. We won lots of tournaments in Forza 2 and hopefully looking forward to do the same thing in Forza 3. My times are very respectable in Forza 2 and Forza 3 (Although Forza is not a SIM racing game as compare to rfactor and GT cause in a real SIM you cannot do a LB time with the controller). Since GT5 is a different ball game i am still getting used to the physics of the game. However i am ranked 2012 in Gt5 demo and trying my best to improve it every day. I have been a community member in Gtplanet and Forza forums for a long time.

Apart from playing games i am myself a software developer and working 5 days a week. In my free time all i do is play games and do some 3d gaming programming. Here are the advantages of why you should hire me and how Fanatec can benefit :-
1) I am very creative and can give Fanatec some suggestions in how to improve their site or community forums or boost their sale in selling their Wheel.
2) I can develop sites, create banners in photoshop CS3 or use ActionScript in creating Flash ads.
3) I can also help you in improving the product quality if i get the software as i am a developer myself.

Here is my first video i uploaded on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JnBLi09wzQ

Second video for forza 3 :-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zInqheEXM_I

P.S: I also have an issue opened with Fanatec to replace my wheel as the throttle dies every now and then. Hopefully will be sending the video soon to one of your customer rep also.

Hi Thomas I would love to

Hi Thomas I would love to test out the ultimate wheel I do reviews on youtube and also for gamespot.com I currently test on xbox 360 and pc I love forza 3 and wanted a little more then just a gas and brake pedal. I am willing to submit feedback videos and reviews and let you know of any bugs that are found plaese contact me. I am looking foward to trying out this great looking setup. Thanks, Jeff

Dear Thomas, I own a PC,

Dear Thomas,

I own a PC, Playstation 3, and a Xbox 360.

I have had experience with a Logitech Momo, Driver Force GT, and G25 wheel in the past. I have played many PC titles (Viper Racing, Need for Speed series, Colin McRae Rally series, rFactor, GTR series, and more) and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue with the Logitech wheels.

As a racing enthusiast, I find that hard mounting options are a must to truly experience the wheel and pedals. Logitech provides great hard mounting points, but I currently own a Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless wheel and I had to improvise a hard mounting solution. This unfortunately requires modification to the wheel. I also modified my G25 to improve the responsiveness of the shifter and pedals.

I have had some experience with go-karting, road racing, and dirt ovals racing. I try to use the experience from that to judge the physics of cars in the video games.

I may not be the fastest driver, but I can describe how the physics of the software respond with the hardware.

I know modification skills are not required for testing, but modifications are the result of improving the vehicle.

http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=2983658#post2983658

I have made my own racing seat and mount for any future wheel, pedal, and shifter so that installation is easy for me.

I have the equipment and software to record and edit photos and movies for my reviews.

Although I haven’t made a review of a product yet, I have made videos on my youtube channel.

I currently live in Hawaii.

Thomas, Very keen again

Thomas,

Very keen again after having such a good time testing (and bug-testing :P) the late great 911PTW. I meet all the minimum specs, and half the advanced ones... but unfortunately not the ones about being super quick. ;)

Current kit:
911 Turbo Wheel beta and 911 Turbo Wheel (with new dongle - thanks!)
AMD X4 3.4GHz, ATI 4890, Win7x64. Still have old C2D 1.8GHz, X1300 for low end testing
PS3, and if Polyphony don't hurry up and release GT5 I'll be tempted to add Xbox360 + Forza3 to that.
GTL, GTR2, GTR Evo, RBR, F12001, rFactor, GRID, etc. and iRacing again fairly soon.

My previous review is hosted on my website along with the brake mod I made for the standard 911 pedals (and both still getting pretty good hits), and also at nogripracing (hardjack79). I'd aim at doing something similar for the comparison of all 4 wheels: a detailed pdf and a lighter html review, plus vids of any specific tests/demos I come up with.

All the best,
Richard

Hi Thomas. Im 27 years old,

Hi Thomas.
Im 27 years old, and live in the UK. Im a huge motorsport fan which has led me to get involved in virtual/sim racing heavily.

I would be very earger to carry out the utimate wheel comparrison.
As a moderator for UKOG.org (UK Online gaming) and a membr of racedepartment.com i would love to give our members an insight into these three wheels.

I have recently purchased capture card and recording equipment so that i may start making game, hardware and peripheral reviews on the 3 platforms i actively use, own and play games on, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. I pesonally own a microsoft force feedback wheel and would be happy to work this into my review.

I currently own a race/sim seat which is quite basic but easily accessable and low cost for the recreational gamer, coupled with this i have ordered a playseat which is more robust than my current race seat, and would also be able to offer a comparrison of compatability for the wheels against these 2 seats.

A change in career has also freed me up alot of spare time so making multiple video reviews of 20 minutes or more would be of no problem to myself.

Thank you for your time.
Cronnie.

I am an experienced

I am an experienced marketing executive and licensed amateur racer and would love to help in this test project. In addition to the minimum requirements, I can offer you the following unique perspectives:

1) While I have reasonable grasp of technology, I am new to sim racing and I am not a "tech-head" or a "sim-head" (and I attach no negative connotations to those lables). Therefore, I can provide the insight of an average user regarding ease of use and installation....an important perspective as you seek to broaden your marketshare outside of the die-hard sim racer community. I use the PS3 and am setting up a PC racing link.

2) I race real cars and know what it should feel like. I have completed several performance driving schools including the Bondurant Grand Prix driving course (one of the premier driving courses in the US) and race a vintage '62 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Last season I raced in a Spec Miata in a different conference. I also own and drive on the street and track a '07 BMW M6 and have driven a number of high performance and exotic automobiles.

3) I have senior executive experience in marketing and branding and can offer insights on product positioning, etc. After 25 years I've decided to take some time off from full time work and have a window of time to have a little fun.....like testing race simulation products.

While I am new to the gaming/sim racing world, I believe the perspectives outlined above could be of significant benefit to you as you seek to improve your products and expand your business. I discovered your products while doing research to find the most realistic driving setup.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope to hear from you.

Hi Thomas,

I already own the Porsche Turbo S Wheel with clubsport pedals. Have experience with various other wheels for PC and Xbox360. I'm in possession of a PC (Mac Pro), PS3 and an XBox360. Primary interests are realistic feel and response in simulation games, and of course the equipment.

Aside having photography as a hobby, my other big passion is racing and I actually own a real 911 Turbo. I also attended various driving trainings via the Porsche Sport Driving School.

Reading your blog, I thought it might be interesting to apply. See how these wheels stand up to the real thing ;)

I primarily use the xbox 360

I primarily use the xbox 360 for racing, and currently have the PWTS standard package. Prior to that, I had the MS Wheel (went through 4 of them) since before Forza 2 came out (played Forza since the first xbox). I had a PS3, but didn't like any of the race games that came out for it. I'll be buying one again for the release of GT5. I've raced the GT series since the first one, and raced an assortment of PC games. Although not a full sim, my favourite PC game has to remain NFS Porsche Unleashed. I had tons of fun racing with my old Microsoft Sidewinder Wheel. I would be up for trying some newer sims on the PC as well, and I'm open to recommendations.

I'm a long time member of the Forza Motorsports site (VIP status) and ISRA (Internation Sim Racing Association), and I run in a number of series (SimRacing HD, IFCA, ISRA)and events on xbox live and will be doing the same on the PS3.

My education background is in Journalism and Environmental Science, so testing and reporting should be objective and clear. I'm not a "fan boy" and would judge the merits of each product without prejudice.

I'm located in Eastern Canada.

I'm a sim racing enthusiast

I'm a sim racing enthusiast with a preference for hot-lapping, but I've been working on both friends and family to get them to join me for some online racing.

I own and use the following:

PC - Logitech MOMO Force Racing Wheel / Cannon Simulation Technologies CST-3R pedals and floor bracket / Act Labs RS Shifter

PS3 - Logitech Driving Force GT

Xbox 360 - Microsoft Wheel

With the consoles I use a Playseats Evolution.

I've had a PTSW Clubsport on order since mid-October but I haven't received any part of the order, yet. From what I'm told, part of the order is sitting in Customs up in Canada. I live in the center of the US.

I would welcome the opportunity to evaluate future products on multiple platforms, and to have a forum to have my voice heard on the development of any products associated with our hobby.

If it's possible, i want to

If it's possible, i want to test them and comparison them with real live steering.
