Tech Tip: PW all versions: Shaking in GT5

Some customers complain that the wheel is shaking on a straight road.

Solution:

  • Make sure you  have sensivity set to OFF = 900°
  • Reduce the FF to 66 or 33.

The GT5 Demo is much better adapted to our wheel than GT5:P and therefore the shaking is almost non-existant if you follow these rules.

As it is right now, GT5

As it is right now, GT5 Trial or Prologue (and i got both) is not enjoyable. The wheel functions so poor there compared to forza 3, That i'll just cross my fingers and hope they fixed it at release, Because as it is now, You might as well pick up the Hand controller and play it with that, the rumble in the ocntroller does a better job..

The wheel is fantastic, and i loooove it with forza 3. But the shaking and no feel with the tires in GT5... Well lets hope they get it fixed

thomas, I have been using

thomas,
I have been using the wheel for 2 months now. Never had any issue other than the shaking in GT5P. These are the settings which i am using for my wheel :-

Sensitivity = off
ABS = off
Drift = Off
FF = 33
Shc = 100

last week While playing the game with the steering wheel it looks like after every minute the throttle dies on the wheel for 4 seconds and then it comes back again. Never had this issue earlier but now it is doing every day and because of that i am not able to play Fm3 and GT5 demo or GT5P. The sound for the motor in the wheel is also very loud and it is grinding alot also. I also sent an email to Fanatec and awaiting for their reply to see if they have a resolution for this issue or if they can replace the wheel as i still have one year warranty. Thought to post in the blog also as email sometime takes forever to reply back.

Check this video. Just go to GT5p settings and adjust the wheel FF down to 2 or 3.

Hope this will help and spread the word. It solve the wheel shaking for me without loosing FF of the wheel. My wheel is set to:

ABS=off
FF=33
Shc=100

My problem is not shaking. I

My problem is not shaking. I already knew how to change the force feedback settings by searching through google. My issue is no matter what i do the throttle just dies in the middle of the race. I have tried each and every senario given by the users over here and still the result is the same.

I am awaiting reply from Fanatec or Thomas in resolving this issue. As of now it's been a week no reply, no email.

There are a lot of public

There are a lot of public holidays at the moment but we will comne back to you and solve your issues for sure.

Thank you Thomas. Glad to

Thank you Thomas. Glad to hear back from you. Will be awaitng your reply.

If Im understanding the

If Im understanding the shaking you all are describing, then Im noticing it in FM3 also. Its VERY annoying, and its WAY worse with some cars. The only way for it to go away is to turn FF off on the wheel. But that completely defeats the realistic feel that the wheel is supposed to generate.

I have my deadzones in Forza set to zero/100 according to suggestions on this and other forums. And I have the FF in the game reduced to about 25% or so.

Im actually finding it pretty difficult to control certain cars with the Fanatec wheel. It still might just be the learning curve for using it. But I feel like the slightest turn in, even with the wheel set to 900, the car gets so tail happy, or just goes straight. Which could be a product of having the FF turned down so low that I cant detect wheel slip...

Hopefully there is a solid fix for this shaking business....Im not a fan.

I don't think that is what

I don't think that is what we are talking about here, we or at least I am talking about how when driving in a straight line the wheel constantly alternates and tugs/pulls left then right, it never settles in that game, all other games I have played are fine including Forza.

I get nothing that I would describe as shaking in Forza. I also have deadzone set to 0.

Note that cars in Forza handle very differently from car to car as you would expect (hopefully)

From twitchy GT cars to easy to control super cars all the way to some boringly setup numb family cars. It would actually be interesting to know if Forza is simulating the steering rack/dampening in the steering for each car too actually... it feels like it is to me, how much I don't know. I thought at first the game was a bit weak on FFB and numb but then I realized I was just driving a crap car/not properly set up for racing.

Ah... Thats what I was

Ah... Thats what I was struggling with last night. I finally built a wheel stand and got some good time in with the wheel. I was running one of the "prototype" cars and it was horrible in a straight line. I was on the New York track, so I had to get it settled then prepare to carve those sets of barrels. It was bad. I had to turn on T/C and set it to auto haha... otherwise it was too much going on. I know those cars should be twitchy, but man... When it happens it just goes left and right a few degrees and if I dont fight with it, the car will just spin itself out.

You know what it reminds me of...death wobble. If you have ever owned an older Jeep, or know people that have, you've probably heard of it. Basically any number of things can wear out on the front end, and the wheel will just suddenly and violently shake out of your hands while going down the road. Its not a fun event haha.

I also found that issue on the Integra while doing the Integra events...but it could have been high HP front wheel drive issues more than anything.

I know with my Viper, BMWs, and the F50 it isnt a big of a deal and I dont recall it being a problem. Anyway...Hopefully it gets figured out for the GT5 guys!! I almost want to buy a PS3 just for the fact that I can use the wheel with it...

well I have my 911 Turbo set

well I have my 911 Turbo set to 100 FFB and full FFB in game and get only the tiniest shake every now and then (rotation is set to off) so I'm quite happy, but still annoyed the date glitch hasn't been fixed

We can send you a new dongle

We can send you a new dongle which will fix the date issue but please give us some time to send it because at the moment we are overloaded.

ok cool but can you ship it

Oohhps... We will have the

Oohhps... We will have the full product line in Australia very soon but not for now.

tiny shake eh.... either

tiny shake eh.... either something is wrong with my wheel or something is wrong with yours :-D

It really tugs at my wheel im driving straight -_- if I loosen my grip it just spins the car right round after a few tugs

what date glitch is that, are we both talking about the GT5 Demo/TimeTrial

well I haven't tried

well I haven't tried changing the date when using the Time Trial but for anything else

Thomas - "I am not sure why

Thomas - "I am not sure why you think that GT5 will not work fine?
GT5:P had issues with shaking but they are completely solved with the GT5 demo and to me this is a very good indication that GT5 will work fine as well.""

But it isnt solved with GT5 Demo? not for me?, it pulls all over the place wildly when in a straight line unless you completely cripple the forcefeedback all the way down to level 2 and FF of 33 and even then it still tugs but inherently with less strength.

Fix a broken leg by walking slower?

tugging and pulling where it should simply not happen in the first place ( it is not caused by overly strong FFb but is caused by FFB where there simply should not be any unless I am mistaken) you cannot 'fix' that by reducing forcefeedback overall

its a bit like fixing a car that leaks fuel when it goes fast by slowing it down so it leaks less fuel or so little you don't notice... why not just keep the car stationary and then it never leaks, AKA turn of all force feedback completely and call that a fix or workaround/tip.

I would understand if reducing the FFB past a certain point removed the tugging entirely, as if it was a product of the FFB being too strong, but it is not the case, reducing FFB only equally reduces the tugging issue, so to make the tugging go away entirely you have to remove FFB

I know I have gone on and maybe even incorrect in my assumptions, but this is how I see it from the limited time I have spent with the GT5 Demo so far.. which to be honest is too boring to keep going back to :-P

And you/Thomas said that all other wheels act the same? I'm not blaming Fanatec for this issue, it's clearly something wrong with the game that shows up even worse as the Fanatec wheel has no deadzone at all unlike the other wheels.

Most if not all other games appear to have a loose area when centered, a small area of play so the wheel isn't constantly jerking left and right, Polyphonic are possibly daft in that they have not added this for some reason... yet?

Oh and Merry Christmas! I hope you guys get some kind of break or pay rise especially with putting up with me ;-)

Thomas......i dont know

Thomas......i dont know where to post this so i can remember what topic i posted...so ill post here. easy to remember. i have not received my copy of forza3....been a long time...everyone has had their copy sent as i can see or read. where is my copy ?

"Thomas - This is just the

"Thomas - This is just the way the game is programmed"

Isn't it that way as it is expecting a Logitech wheel with a mechanical deadzone no?

To find out now that the ONLY racing game on the PS3 is likely not going to work properly is troubling, so excuse my bluntness, if there is anything you guys can do, I'm sure there are many beyond myself that would appreciate the effort and any fix/hack to minimize the issue even if it means having a naff virtual deadzone toggle in the wheels built in HUD menu.

So the developers either need your help and feedback to work properly with Fanatec wheel, or you need to take into account that they will not support you directly and fathom a work around in your software with say a virtual deadzone that can be toggled on or something.

Naturally it would make most sense if the developers just added support as I imagine it would be trivial for them.

This is of course me assuming the issue does indeed stem from lack of deadzone and would be simple to fix/workaround.

I hope Fanatec's stand on this isn't going to be.. well that's just the way it is; if there are thing's that can be done to find a solution. Have you tried talking to Polyphony? is this just going to be some political issue now and everyone is going to just blame everyone else and no one cooperate? that would be shame if the game ever does get released :-P

I am not sure why you think

Thomas..i know this is not

Thomas..i know this is not in the correct forum...but..hope you will reply. i drive alot..on the road trucking...i received my clubsport and 911 wheel..have issues..but have not had it long enough to figure things out. cant blame anything specific yet..anyways..received a dongle about a week ago. back 4 xmas. not sure what to use it for. 3 weeks ago...i was using the sytem. seem to work. just havta work out the bugs...what is the dongle for. another big issue is; i never received my copy of forza3.....i heard it is already out and several people have already gotten it. i was one of the ones that forsure gets it. i received your personal email that verifies that. can u plz shoot me my copy. thanks in advance...thomas.

Even with those settings I

Even with those settings I still feel the wheel shake left and right, just less than it previously did. Like Helios said I hope this is not the fix and just a tip to make it work better until a real fix comes.....

Are you talking about the

Are you talking about the GT5 demo or about GT5:Prologue?

In the GT5 demo I can set the sensitivity to 210 and FF to max and it will hardly shake. At least not more than with any other wheel. GT5 Demo already has been improved a lot but to be honest I expect (hope)  that there will be some advanced settings in the game options in the final game.

I think that you are the

I think that you are the only one that thinks this. 90% of your customers would disagree with you on this. What are your plans for the wheel if the full version of GT5 still has this shaking while going down the straights? Is there anyway that you can fix this with firmware updates to the wheel?

Demo, but I see what your

Demo, but I see what your saying with your settings. It's just hard to ignore it when coming from Forza, but after playing for an hour or so today I kinda started to get used to it. I just feel like I'm hurting the motor when I'm holding it straight and I feel it wanting move left or right.

I would like to add that all

I would like to add that all wheels behave the same...

Even the g25 or g27?

Even the g25 or g27?

The G25 does not because it

The G25 does not because it has a dead zone for FFB ( I have a G25 too). I've seen complaints about the shaking from DFGT and G27 owners on GT Planet, but I don't know how it compares to the PWTS in that regard. The FFB overall in the GT5 TT demo leaves a lot to be desired...we can only hope it's better in the final version and the shaking is 100% gone.
